Bennett & Barkell

This photoshoot for Bennett and Barkell in Wagga was a true blend of fashion and hair artistry. The minimalist aesthetic brought an elevated and luxe vibe to the images, making each hairstyle stand out effortlessly.

The mix between fashion and hair created a unique visual story that showcased the talent and dedication of Bennett and Barkell.. It was clear that every shot had to be carefully crafted to highlight not just the hairstyles, but also the overall experience of visiting this upscale salon in Wagga.

The photography content created for Bennett and Barkell perfectly encapsulated their brand identity – chic, modern, and effortlessly elegant. This shoot wasn't just about showcasing hairstyles; it was about capturing moments of beauty and confidence that anyone could relate to.

Sony Alpha Award Winner 2021

In July 2021 I was awarded the Grand Prize Winner for 2021 Sony Alpha Awards, judged by the World Photography Organisation.

The award was true honour and privilege.

Scott Gray, CEO of the World Photography Organisation and Grand Prize judge commented "After such a turbulent year it is a delight to view Matt Beaver’s “The Fog”; a calm, elegant and cinematic image. It is a beautifully layered photograph, from tone and texture through to subject and focus; it draws you in with its enigmatic quality."

My winning image ‘The Fog’ is an image I’ve seen this image a thousand times before, except in different circumstances.

I’ve seen farmers walking through brown paddocks of dirt under blue skies and a blazing sun. It hasn’t rained in months. The farmer has checked the weather app, the predicted rain never eventuates. Crop failure, after crop failure the ground remains dry. The drought never seems to end.

This image was captured while we waited for the fog to clear.

The drought had broken, the landscape was green again and crops were thriving. The country had turned a corner and the constant drought was no longer.

A big thanks to the resilient farmers who continue to work the land to feed us all and Ben our farmer in the frame.

Romano’s Hotel

If you are looking to create some brand awareness , solid curation and consistency in your Instagram feed is a must. We shot Romano’s new summer menu full of beer burgers and summery treats in hard light against a big bold yellow background. We kept the styling clean and simple. The background ties in with the brand and the bold shadows, hard light and pop of colour works to stop scrolling thumbs in their tracks and make for a social feed consistency that stands out.

Hume & Hovell Track

The Hume & Hovell track stretches over 400km from Yass to Albury. In a collaboration with the team at Angry Ant we were enlisted to pull together a creative approach that would help promote the track to hikers of all ability.

This shoot was a real treat.

We wanted to showcase the scenic sections of the track that would make the hike well worth the effort. We trekked through some amazing locations, dense forest, lookouts, suspension bridges, gnarly walking tracks and a few river crossings. We also created some flexibility in the visual assets by shooting summer and winter seasonal looks to help stretch the content further. Hours of pre-production and kilometres of travel into some of the more remote regions of the Snowy Valley allowed us to share with the world some of the most stunning and secluded parts of the Hume and Hovell track.

Knowing these images would get use in the long term we decided to shoot a winter and summer look. It was simple - change of clothes and props complimented by a change of colour grade. We have the winter images with a nice green muted look and the summer images a warm orange look.

An amazing project in a stunning part of the world.

Australian Unity

If you have travelled through East Africa it’s likely that you may have visited the Maasai. You might have witnessed their tribe perform their traditional dance, jumping high in the air to the sound of traditional music. What is a little less likely is meeting an honorary Maasai in Temora NSW, which is why I was a little surprised to find out that documentary maker and author Keith Stevenson was exactly, that, an honorary Maasai. I had the great pleasure of spending a slow morning with Keith shooting images to tell his story for Flourish Magazine

Halliday Wine

We were commissioned by Halliday Wine to produce a series of stills and video of the Dark Horse Winery of the Year, Yarran Wines. Sam and the team at Yarran Wines produce beautiful wines at one of the regions best cellar doors.

We produced a range video and stills to be used across digital and print mediums. Of course our favourite moment was dumping 5 litres of Sams’s award winning wine on him in celebration of his award

Sweet Lips Infusions

After creating a suite of bottle shots on white, we decided to see how far we could stretch these assets? We produced some fun, colourful and vibrant videos and stills that suited the brand look and feel perfectly.
